48 Stunden Neukölln calls for a “Change of Perspective!”
This year, 48 Stunden Neukölln – The Art Festival invites visitors to northern Neukölln for the 15 th time for 400 art events hosted by a total of 250 venues focusing on the theme “Change of Perspective!”.
Our annual theme asks artists to envision the reality of life in an urban cross-cultural society confronted with various challenges. For the first time it is also a requirement for festival entries. The visitors are faced with an interdisciplinary art program with a diverse attitudes, new interpretations and experimental art forms.
The mixture that defines Neukölln is and remains exciting. People from around 147 countries live and here at close quarters. Meanwhile, northern Neukölln has become a “hip” district. Many people have begun to discover the once disreputable part of town for themselves. And yet many of the social problems such as poverty, unemployment and lack of education that were often bemoaned in the media remain virulent. These visible fractures and contradictions inspired us we have declared our festival area a “laboratory” for the study of artistic and social processes.
